What is the DJI Matrice 30 Series and why it is the most widely used enterprise drone in field operations

The DJI Matrice 30 Series is the compact enterprise drone platform designed for those who cannot compromise on performance and reliability, but need to operate rapidly from any location. The strength of the series lies in the balance between extreme compactness — it folds to a volume comparable to a laptop and weighs under 4 kg — and an integrated sensor suite that covers the majority of professional operational scenarios without the need to swap payloads. The two variants, M30 and M30T, are the reference choice for public safety teams, fire brigades, civil protection, infrastructure inspectors and SAR operators who need to be operational within two minutes of arriving on site.

M30 or M30T — which variant to choose

The difference between the two variants is clear-cut and the choice depends almost entirely on the prevailing operational scenario.

DJI Matrice 30 — Visual inspection and reconnaissance

The M30 integrates three fixed sensors: a 48 MP zoom camera with f/2.8–f/4.0 aperture and 200× hybrid zoom (16× optical + digital), a 12 MP wide-angle camera with f/2.8 aperture and 84° FOV for panoramic captures, and a laser rangefinder with a range of up to 1,200 m for precise ground distance measurement. It is the choice for visual inspections of infrastructure (towers, pylons, bridges, dams), rapid reconnaissance in complex environments, expeditious photogrammetry and daytime operations where thermography is not required.

DJI Matrice 30T — Thermal inspection, security and SAR

The M30T adds to the M30's sensor system a 640×512 px radiometric thermal camera at 30 Hz with NETD ≤50 mK thermal sensitivity, enabling precise temperature measurement on every pixel of the image. This makes it indispensable for public safety, person search in woodland or night environments, thermal inspections of photovoltaic systems, power lines and industrial equipment, firefighting and SAR operations. The M30T is the recommended choice in the vast majority of cases: the price premium over the M30 is fully justified by the additional operational versatility.

Fixed integrated sensors — no payload to mount, ready to fly in 2 minutes

Unlike the Matrice 350 RTK or the Matrice 400 — which require separate payload mounting and configuration before each mission — the Matrice 30 Series has all sensors integrated into the drone's structure and non-interchangeable. This translates into a significant operational advantage: no payload mounting procedure, no risk of connection errors, no time lost. The operator takes the drone out of the backpack, opens the arms, inserts the TB30 battery and the drone is ready in under two minutes. Ideal for emergency response, patrolling and missions where reaction time is critical.

O3 Enterprise transmission — 15 km, 1080p live, 4G failover

The OcuSync 3 Enterprise (O3E) transmission system provides high-definition live video at 1080p/30Hz up to 15 km with the DJI RC Plus remote controller (7" display, IP54, 6-hour battery). The transmission supports three simultaneous video channels — wide-angle, zoom and thermal (on the M30T) — viewable in split-screen on the RC Plus for parallel image monitoring. The optional 4G module (M30 dongle kit or DJI Cellular Dongle) provides backup connectivity with automatic failover in the event of primary radio signal loss.

41-minute endurance, IP55 and operability from –20°C to +50°C

The TB30 intelligent batteries deliver up to 41 minutes of endurance under standard conditions, with typical operational endurance of 30–35 minutes in real-world configurations (wind, extreme temperatures). The BS30 intelligent charging station enables rapid recharging cycles for continuous operations throughout the working day. The magnesium and carbon structure is IP55 certified against dust and water, with guaranteed operability across a temperature range of –20°C to +50°C and wind resistance up to 12 m/s. For high-altitude environments, the 1676 High Altitude propellers maintain performance up to 6,000 m above sea level.

Tethered system — unlimited hovering for surveillance and extended operations

The tethered system for the Matrice 30 (55 m cable) converts the drone into a continuously powered aerial surveillance platform, eliminating the battery constraint for missions requiring prolonged time on station. It is the solution for airborne command posts during public order operations or events, continuous perimeter monitoring, support for long-duration rescue operations and fixed aerial coverage of critical infrastructure. The ground power supply ensures full operability of the drone, sensors and video transmission for the entire duration of the mission.

Operational payloads — spotlight, speaker and delivery systems

Despite its integrated sensors, the Matrice 30 supports additional payloads via the accessory connector to extend operational capabilities in the field. The PTZ Spotlight 6,000 LM/50W (200 m range) illuminates night intervention areas with PTZ control via the remote controller. The combined PTZ Spotlight + Speaker 122 dB version (250 m range) integrates light and audio communication in a single accessory for public safety operations. The standalone Speaker 126 dB (300 m range) is optimised for emergency communications in open environments. The 2-load Delivery Dropping Kit allows the release of light materials (medicines, emergency devices, leaflets) in areas unreachable from the ground.

Flight safety — parachute kit and FTS terminator certified MoC 2511

For specific-category operations over populated areas or events with public gatherings, the C5 Conversion Kit with Dronavia KRONOS M30 Parachute certified MoC 2511-2512 is available, enabling operability in PDRA-S04 scenarios and operations above crowd gatherings. The FTS Terminator MOC 2511 plug-and-play is the alternative for scenarios requiring a certified active flight termination system without a parachute.
