How to choose the right DJI Agras agricultural drone
Choosing between DJI Agras T25, T50 and T100 depends on three main factors: average field size, crop type and transport logistics. For wineries, intensive orchards and horticulture under 50 hectares, the T25 offers the best balance of cost, manoeuvrability between rows and SUV transportability. For cereals, rice and extensive olive groves over 100 hectares, the T50 with coaxial dual rotor system is the most productive option, capable of treating 21 hectares/hour with superior stability even on windy days. The T100 is designed for contractors, cooperatives and heavy-duty operations including granular spreading on large surfaces and lifting payloads up to 100 kg.
EU & ENAC regulations for agricultural drones in Italy
DJI Agras drones fall under the specific category of EU Regulation 2019/947 because they exceed the weight and capacity limits of the Open category. To operate in Italy you need:
1. UAS license in specific category
At minimum the STS-01 EU certificate or, alternatively, a point-by-point operational authorization (LUC or ENAC single authorization). DroneBase is a recognised UAS training centre and runs STS-01 courses with official examination at our Rimini headquarters or online.
2. D-Flight operator registration
The farm must be registered as a UAS operator on the D-Flight portal, with QR code applied to the drone. Registration costs about €24/year.
3. Aircraft liability insurance
Mandatory with minimum coverage as required by EC Regulation 785/2004. We recommend policies specific to agricultural use (ask us for our partner network).
4. Operations notification and geolocation
To operate in certain areas (airport CTRs, parks, urban centres) ENAC authorization via the D-Flight portal or coordination with ENAV is required.
Tax incentives and grants: PNRR Agriculture 4.0
The purchase of a DJI Agras drone qualifies for incentives under the 4.0 transition and sub-measure 4.1.1 of regional Rural Development Plans. The main levers are:
4.0 Goods tax credit
Up to 20% of the cost for interconnected material assets (drone + DJI Terra/FlightHub 2 software + monitoring). The drone must be connected to the farm management system to meet the interconnection requirement.
ISMEA and regional Rural Development grants
Non-repayable contributions up to 40-65% for young farmers and disadvantaged areas, active in almost all Italian regions. We provide complete technical documentation for reporting.
GrenkeLeasing instrumental finance
Operational financing from 36 to 60 months with reduced initial payment. No down payment required for companies with positive financial statements. Calculate your rate.
MEPA code for Public Administration
All our DJI Agras drones are available on the Italian Public Administration Electronic Marketplace (MEPA) for direct purchases by Municipalities, Reclamation Consortia, Universities and research bodies. Discover how to purchase via MEPA.
Savings vs traditional tractor or sprayer
An average farm with 80 hectares of vineyard performing 10 treatments per year incurs about €22-28 per hectare per treatment with drone (fuel, maintenance, depreciation, pilot), compared to €35-50/hectare with a towed atomizer. Estimated annual savings are €10,000-18,000, with payback in 18-24 months. Add to this non-monetisable benefits such as 30-50% reduction in water and pesticide use thanks to targeted application precision.
